What did Nickelback Say About Their band in the Interview?
During its 28-year history, the band has always gone with its gut. Instead of trying to make hit songs, the band members have gone after what makes them feel good. Band member Ryan Peake said in an interview:
“It’s so helpful to trust your gut, to have faith in who you are and how you want to be presented.”
Nickelback has sold more than 50 million albums, so he is used to selling double platinum or even four times platinum albums. They have won 12 Juno Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards and six Grammy nominations. Half of the band’s 10 studio records have been No. 1 when they first came out.
Nickelback might be a hit-making machine now, but in the mid-’90s, when they were just starting, the band members were just hustlers. Before they were signed to Road Runner and EMI Records in 1999, they put out their first two records, Curb and The State, on their own. Band member Chad Kroeger said:
“We started off doing everything ourselves, Calling the radio stations, distributing our records independently, travelling across this vast country of ours and playing anywhere they’d let us.”
All the planning and organization that went into making music took up a lot of time and made it harder for them to make music. Since then, the band has been able to focus on the creative side and the time they have to write songs is something they still enjoy.
Months after they finished making their 2022 album Get Rollin’, Kroeger couldn’t get the first line of “Those Days” the second song, out of his head. Kroeger and Peake talked about some of the most important parts of the last 28 years. They talked about their favourite Juno moments and acts that reminded them why they love what they do.
